About Elizabeth Houghton
Elizabeth was born and raised in southern Ontario and lived in the Okanagan Valley for many years before moving north and finding her home in Kitimat, BC. She completed a BSc in Earth and Environmental Science and a PhD in Biology at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan). She currently works full time as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Victoria studying aspects of climate change.
Her art is inspired by my love of and for nature and the great experiences she has had so far. From month long canoe trips in the northern stretches of Ontario to backcountry hiking in the Yukon and planting almost one million trees across Canada, the places and people she has been so fortunate to be surrounded by have been truly inspirational.
She is a self taught Canadian painter who loves to work with acrylic paint on canvas. When she is not painting, you can find her hiking local trails with her partner and senior dog.

About her paintings
Elizabeth began painting over a decade ago. Starting by experimenting with oils and water colours, she eventually found joy in working with acrylic paints.
She draws her inspiration from the world around her; from her time spent working in cherry orchards up and down the Okanagan Valley researching cherry ecophysiology, to the many summers spent tree planting in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia as well as hiking in Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon.
Her minimalist landscape painting style allows her to focus on the stunning shapes and motions of the landscapes in Canada while incorporating both traditional and non-traditional colours to capture the feeling of these places.
About her prints
"In the winter of 2019, my sister and I were hiking in Canmore, Alberta when she proposed I sell prints of my art. At this point in my artistic journey, I had mainly been painting for my own enjoyment so the art was starting to pile up with a lot of it being stored in closets (because there are only so many walls in a house).
My sister convinced me that other people would enjoy my artwork too. To prove it, she scanned a few of my originals and started an Etsy shop. Since then, many of my original paintings have been listed for sale as prints! This journey has provided us an extra excuse to stay connected now that we live on opposite sides of the country."
